Local Veterans Collecting Old Flags for Disposal
The American Legion Post 122 has launched a local drive to collect worn and
tattered flags to disposed of properly in accordance with proper flag
protocol. If you have a worn, faded or torn flag that you would like
to have disposed of properly, please drop the flags off at Carter's
Cleaners, Kingfish Korners or Hester's Insurance during regular business
hours. Legionnaires will be collecting the flags through May 31st.
Meeting to Be Held In February to Plan Summer Event
The 1st Fellowship & Deliverance Convocation will be held at Cairo High
School on June 28-30th. There will be a meeting on February 25th at
2:00p.m. at Mr. Chick to plan the event. Pastor Montanna Vicks will be
in town from Afghanistan to support the event on this day and invites
everyone in the community who is interested in helping to plan the summer
program to attend this meeting.
Alumni Baseball Game to Be Held in February
The Cairo High School Dug Out Club will sponsor the 1st Annual Varsity
Baseball Alumni Game on Saturday, February 18th at 10:00a.m. at the CHS
Varsity Baseball Field. All former varsity baseball players from all
years are invited to participate in the game. Tickets will be sold for
$5 the day of the event. For more information or to sign up to play,

Register Now for Head Start
The Decatur/Grady Child Development Center is taking applications for the
2012-2013 school year February 6th through February 17th from 8am - 4pm at the Head Start
Center located at 215 School Road in Climax. Those eligible for Head
Start are children ages 3 on or before September 1, 2012. For more

The Grady County Registration Department is taking registration through
February 17th for baseball, girl's fas-pitch softbal, co-ed tee ball and

Career Fair to Be Held on February 16th
The 2012 Cairo/Thomasville Career Expo, sponsored by the Georgia Department
of Labor and the Thomasville and Cairo Career Centers will be held on
Thursday, February 16th from 9am-noon at the Southwest Georgia Technical
College in Sewell Building D. Everyone is encouraged to dress for
success, bring their resumes and be ready to speak to potential employers.
Farm Bureau Seeks Essay Entries
The Grady County Farm Bureau encourages all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students
to enter the Georgia Farm Bureau Middle School Essay Contest. Students
should address the topic of "Georgia Farmers are my heroes because.." The
winner of the essay contest will win $50 and have the opportunity to read
their essay at the local directors monthly meeting. To enter the
contest, students should contact the Grady County Farm Bureau for the
official title sheet and contest rules. The deadline for entries will
be February 10, 2012.
Flu Shots Still Available
The Grady County Health Department still has the flu vaccine available for $25 per
dose. The vaccine is available this year as an injection or via
nasal spray. The Health Department accepts check, cash, Medicaid and
Medicare and health insurance plans like State Health Benefit plans, United
Health Care and Cigma. For more information, call 377-2992.
Historical Society has Cookbook for Sale
The Grady County Historical Society has a newly updated cookbook currently
on Sale. "A Dash, a Pinch and a Smidgen- A Taste of the Holidays" is
currently on sale by Historical Society members for $15.00. The book
may also be purchased from area stores and at the History Museum on North
Broad Street which is open on Tuesday and Thursdays from 11-3 and on
Wednesdays from 11-5.
The "Cemeteries of Grady County, Georgia Addendum 2011" is also ready
and available for sale. This indexed edition includes all
information from the 2007 edition plus additional entries and corrections
since 2007, and maps of the cemeteries locations. The cost is $15, tax

Al-Anon Support Group Meets on Monday Nights
The Grady County Chapter of Al-Anon, a support group for family and friends
of people who have drug addition issues, meets on Monday evenings from
8=9p.m. at the AA Building on Highway 84 East in Cairo. There is no
registration or reservations required, nor fees or dues. For more

New Non-profit Program started to Recycle Flowers
Flower Angels is a new group that has started with the purpose of taking
flowers from church services or other events and using them to make bouquets
for people in hospice care. If you would like to volunteer to help
with this new ministry, or would like to donate flowers, please call Marie
or Lisa at 377-9547.
Veterans Express Bus Going to Clinic on
Wednesdays
The Veterans Express Bus will be going to the
Tallahassee Outpatient Clinic every Wednesday, leaving the Cairo Wal-Mart
Parking Lot at 6:55a.m. There is no charge for veterans, but you are
urged to please make your appointment at the clinic for the morning hours.

DEFACS Seeking Foster Parents
The stability, guidance and warmth of a committed
family provides a reliable bridge between adolescence and adulthood.
Foster parenting is a commitment to helping children through the pain of not
being able to live in their birth families due to neglect or abuse.
There is a tremendous need for foster and adoptive parents on a local and

Goodwill Donation Center Now Open in Cairo
Goodwill industries now has a new donation center open
in Cairo next to Thomas Chevrolet in the old Carters Fried Chicken building.
The center is open Monday-Saturday from 9am-6pm.
